BOOKS
These are handmade collages reimagining book covers of books that, for one reason or another, have been banned in various state and federal prisons throughout the United States. For a reference, HERE is a list of magazines and books published in 2015 that were banned in a North Carolina Prison as determined by their Dep't of Public Safety. Every prison has indiscriminate authority in banning at media for any reason.
For this series, I used images from my archive in combination with images obtained from websites selling inmate restraint products, like THIS ONE and THIS ONE.
The series was published during the Pandemic in Barzakh’s Spring 2020 Issue, Special Section: On Incarceration.
